As the year starts, the math department welcomes a new teacher, Ms. Kane. She comes from Warwick, Rhode Island where she grew up. She attended Warwick public school up until high school, where she attended Bayview. She later went to URI and majored in chemistry so she could pursue pharmaceutical research. She then graduated URI and was hired to work in a lab, but discovered she did not have the interest she thought she would in her job. So, she went to Providence College to earn her degree in mathematics while also taking teaching classes. She eventually went back to her former high school where she taught for two years. Now, she teaches Algebra II to sophomores and juniors at La Salle.
Ms. Kane expressed her excitement for the school year saying that the students are very motivated and that the general atmosphere of La Salle makes her feel as if she was not a new teacher. She is also excited about working in a coed school. She plans to to keep teaching at La Salle, and eventually go back to school to earn her Master's degree. Her interest include skiing, hiking, reading, going to the beach, and renovating her home.
