New Year, New Schedule

La Salle Academy has featured a number of changes this 2016-2017 school year. An important change is a new schedule format. In this new schedule, classes rotate in descending order, rather than the ascending schedule of last year. This has also brought along a change to the infamous double drop of classes. In the revised schedule, a class that is dropped on a Wednesday will drop the next two days and does not meet again until first period on that Friday. This is a small but significant change from last year’s format in which the double dropped class would be skipped on Tuesday and Wednesday, and would not meet until the last period of that Thursday.
Many students have questioned why the change of schedule was made. Ms. Romani, the Vice Principal of Academics at La Salle, was willing to inform readers on the issue. She explained that the revised schedule was a result of numerous complaints from teachers. Many were upset that the double drop from the 2015-2016 schedule hindered the access they had to their students. By dropping a class first period on a Monday and not revisiting until last period on a Thursday, the majority of a week would be gone without a class meeting. To follow up on these complaints, Ms. Romani met with the heads of the many academic departments at La Salle in the “Academic Council.” At the council, teachers voiced their thoughts and concerns about the new schedule, primarily regarding the double drop. After conducting a poll, the decision was reached to keep the period which “double-drops” on Wednesday and Thursday, but to change the schedule rotation to the descending order of previous years. Thus far, the change seems to be working well, however more alterations could be in store for the future.
