La Salle Academy has made some changes for the 2016-2017 academic school year. One of these changes includes the switch from Edline to PlusPortals, a system which allows teachers to communicate outside of the classroom with the students and their parents. PlusPortals has several advantages when compared to Edline.
“The goal is for both parents and students to be on the same page with no surprises,” said Ms. Sanga, La Salle’s educational technology specialist.
While using PlusPortals students have access to their class grades more frequently because the grades are updated in real time as teachers enter or change them. Students also have access to their own class schedules, a calendar that lists their upcoming assignments, an attendance sheet to keep on track during the academic year, and assignments and materials posted by teachers. Although PlusPortals allows students to submit work through that website, Google Classroom is still used in some classes during this new year. Some teachers use PlusPortals and Google Classroom simultaneously in a way in which the programs each play a unique role and compliment the other. On the teacher side of PlusPortals, the new system tends to be more user friendly with the concept that if a teacher posts an assignment on their class page, that assignment submits itself right into their grade book.
“The easiest answer as to why La Salle switched from Edline to PlusPortals is the seamless integration with the main student information system,” said by Ms. Sanga.
As all hopes for an enlightening and strong academic year are still spreading, La Salle welcomes PlusPortals into the new community.
